Description

Allison TCM A5300MKL for Military M-ATV 4th Gen A59 Transmission Control Module

Compatible years: approx. 2006–2012

The Allison A590024D is the 4th Generation A59 transmission control module (TCM) for the All-Terrain Vehicle (M-ATV) Family of Vehicles. These vehicles feature a diverse array of meticulously crafted vehicle configurations.

The Allison transmission is the 3500SP. The TCM, introduced in 2014, this A59 version was released as an updated and more reliable replacement for earlier 4th Gen TCMs that suffered from heat-related failures and board separation issues.

The A5300MKL TCM is remanufactured to exacting standards and must be programmed after installation to match your vehicle configuration.

Common symptoms of a failing 4th Gen TCM (prior to A59)

  • Stuck in limp mode or failure to shift

  • Hard or delayed shifting between gears

  • Codes like U0101 or P0700

  • Scan tool can’t communicate with TCM

  • No response from transmission at startup

  • Loss of 4th or 5th gear in automatic mode

If you’re replacing a failed 4th Gen unit, the A59 version is a reliable, plug-in replacement with improved thermal stability and design.

Pre-replacement checklist

Before installing your new A5300MKL TCM, check:

  1. Battery voltage and ground – Low voltage or voltage spikes can damage the TCM

  2. Wiring harness – Look for corrosion, melted pins, or frayed sections

  3. Moisture or contamination – Water damage was a common issue with pre-A59 modules

  4. Verify TCM part number and connector style

  5. Scan for P-codes – Focus on TCM-related faults

Unsure? Reaction Force offers free bench testing and phone-based diagnostics to confirm the issue.

Related diagnostic trouble codes

These fault codes are often linked to Gen 4 TCM failure:

  • P0700 – Transmission control system fault

  • U0101 – Lost communication with TCM

  • P0880 – TCM power input circuit failure

  • P0606 – Internal control module processor fault

  • P2534 – Ignition run/start circuit low

  • P2544 – Torque management request input signal

You may also see manufacturer-specific codes related to gear range faults or speed sensor data errors.

Installation notes

  • Disconnect the battery before beginning installation

  • Mount TCM in a clean, dry location with proper hardware

  • Reconnect all harnesses securely and check for corrosion

  • Program the TCM after installation to match the vehicle

  • Clear all stored fault codes and perform a test drive cycle
